Audrey Doyle

Audrey Doyle paints landscapes of an escapist psychological arcane dreamland. Her practice combines concepts of eco-philosophy, the female gaze, romanticism, and surrealism—specifically the idea of inscape painting—to create portals to a lush dream world. This world is built from a lifetime of collected mementos and personal mythology. She’s a romantic of the digital age, combining the subtleties of the earth’s wilderness and digital landscapes traversed in digital media. There is an element of feminine escapist adventure in her work. This ideal world is gentle, whimsical, and limitless, decorative and maximalist. She uses dreamy touches non-ironically and with complete sincerity. Her paintings begin as collages of memories, imagination, art history, internet imagery, and personal archives. These collages are the framework for her paintings, which use illusion to create a melded sense of space and logic within the collaged dream world. She believes painting is a form of lucid dreaming where everything is both a portal and a mirror. She plays with this idea of magic and illusion, creating deep spaces that beckon.
