Amplify

I’m just a servant
Who serves these
Words,
Inky sentiments,
Nearly sentient-
And the mind
Works on her own time,
Sometimes,
She works against mine.
I’m just a maid
Who cleans up after these
Thoughts ablaze
And they swarm
Like bees in a summer haze,
You cannot force them in a cage,
And sometimes they say messy things
So,
Someone must oversee them.
And when words spill
My pen works overtime,
Because for some reason,
I think I should catch
My rhymes,
Instead of
Letting them
Run free.
And in return,
I am the one
They keep.

Author’s Note: “Amplify” was written to highlight the significance of my word choice, thoughts, as well as my own mind. While the way I highlight these experiences can seem chaotic or trap-like, I feel these things aid in my uniquely human experience, by amplifying my life as a whole.
